Yes. Université Laval’s Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) requires Casper in French for fall 2027 entry, weighted 20% at the interview-invitation stage and 20% of final selection. Laval also counts only the visual perception section of the dental aptitude test (TAED), with a minimum of 15 out of 30, and holds a 20-minute structured interview in person. Final selection is 60% academic file, 20% Casper and 20% interview, so Casper and the interview deserve equal preparation.
Does Laval dentistry require CASPer?
Yes. Every applicant to Laval’s DMD takes Canada Casper 2 in French, the only language Laval accepts for this program, and results count only for the same admission year. Only the visual perception section of the TAED counts, with a minimum of 15 out of 30, and results must reach the Faculty by 1 March of the admission year. To compare the other Quebec dental schools, see Université de Montréal dentistry and McGill dentistry.
What is the Laval dentistry interview format?
Laval uses a structured interview, not an MMI. Laval’s information-day document for dentistry describes a 20-minute interview, in person only, generally held in May, and states that it is not a multiple mini-interview like the one in medicine. The current program page confirms the structured interview and its 20% weight. Laval medicine runs the MEM instead: see Université Laval medicine.
How does Laval select dentistry applicants?
The interview invitation uses the academic file (60%) and Casper (20%), a total out of 80. Final selection is 60% academic file, 20% Casper and 20% structured interview.
Places are reserved for Quebec residents, with francophone New Brunswick residents also eligible under an intergovernmental agreement and two places outside the quota reserved for them. Applicants whose primary and secondary schooling was not in French must submit a TCF-TP result (at least 400 out of 699, and 14 out of 20 in written expression) by 1 August, or the application is cancelled.
What does Laval not publish about dentistry admissions?
- Casper cutoff scores.
- An exact interview date for the current cycle (Laval’s information-day document gives May as the usual month).
How do you prepare for the Laval dentistry interview?
A structured interview is a conversation, so it rewards real stories, a clear reason for choosing dentistry and calm answers to follow-up questions. Arvin Ardakani, a final-year medical student who founded ExperienceMED, coaches applicants on the personal stories behind their answers and runs mock interviews with follow-ups. See panel interview vs MMI for how a structured interview differs, and CASPer for dental applicants for the Casper side.
To have your answers marked by Arvin, try the free CASPer mock or see the programs.
