Yes. Université Laval’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) requires Casper in French for fall 2027 entry, and Casper is a hard gate: applicants not retained on Casper are refused without any review of their academic file. Those retained are invited to the multiple mini-interviews (MEM), held in person and in French in April, and final selection rests on the MEM result alone, with Casper breaking ties.

Does Laval medicine require CASPer?

Yes. Laval requires Casper in French only, taken for the target admission year; English results and results from earlier cycles are not accepted. MEM invitation lists are built from Casper results, and applicants not retained on Casper are refused without any review of their academic file. Duet and Snapshot are not mentioned. Laval publishes a Casper percentage only for international medical graduates (Casper 30%, MCCQE Part I 70%).

What is the Laval medicine MEM format?

The MEM are held in person and in French in mid April. The joint candidate guide with the Université de Montréal describes 10 stations of 7 minutes, with 2-minute breaks. Compare Université de Montréal medicine, which shares this MEM, and Université de Sherbrooke medicine. If the format is new to you, start with what an MMI is.

How does Laval select medicine applicants?

Final selection is based on the MEM result alone, with Casper used to break ties. University applicants apply by 1 November before the admission year and CEGEP applicants by 1 March of the admission year. To compare another Quebec medical school, see McGill medicine.

What does Laval not publish about medicine admissions?

  • Casper’s percentage weight for college and university applicants.
  • Casper cutoff scores.

How do you prepare for the Laval MEM?

An MMI rewards fast reading, a clear decision and a follow-through in every station. Arvin Ardakani, a final-year medical student who founded ExperienceMED, runs timed stations with applicants and marks each one on six skills: task focus, reasoning, perspective, communication, action and adaptability (what he looks for when marking). Practise out loud, against a clock, and retry with one correction at a time.

To have your answers marked by Arvin, try the free CASPer mock, the free MMI assessment or see the programs.
