Which Canadian dental schools require CASPer?

Four of the last five students who came to Arvin for CASPer coaching were dental applicants, and most CASPer guides online only talk about medical school. This article checks each Canadian dental school’s own admissions page directly, on one date, and reports exactly what it says, rather than repeating a list that may be years out of date.

Schools that currently require CASPer

University of Toronto (DDS). Requires the Canadian Casper 2 test. Scores are considered alongside academic achievement, DAT scores, interviews and essays when making final admission decisions; no fixed percentage weighting is published.

Western University, Schulich Dentistry (DDS). Requires a Canadian CASPer test taken on one of a small set of pre-approved dates for Western Dentistry. CASPer feeds into a compiled ranking score alongside academic achievement, DAT score, the Western Autobiographical Sketch and an interview.

University of Alberta (DDS). Requires Casper 2 (CSP-10211). Scores are one of several inputs the Admissions Committee uses to select candidates, alongside DAT results, personal experience, interview performance and personal statements.

McGill University (DMD). Completing CASPer is mandatory. To decide who is invited to interview, McGill weighs academic performance at 70%, CASPer at 20% and the CV at 10%.

Universite Laval (Doctorat en medecine dentaire). Requires the Casper situational judgment exam, administered in French only for this program. Interview invitations weigh the academic file at 60% and CASPer at 20%; the final selection after the interview weighs academic file 60%, CASPer 20% and the structured interview 20%.

Schools that do not mention CASPer on their own page

University of British Columbia (DMD). The official admissions page lists a minimum scholastic average, the DAT, a problem-based learning assessment and interviews, with no mention of CASPer.

University of Manitoba (DMD). The official applicant-requirements page lists the DAT, academic GPA and an interview, with no mention of CASPer.

University of Saskatchewan (DMD). The official admissions page lists academic performance, the DAT, a multiple mini interview, English proficiency, a criminal record check and immunization, with no mention of CASPer.

Universite de Montreal (Doctorat de 1er cycle en medecine dentaire). The program’s own page states that starting with Fall 2027 entry, it is no longer necessary to pass the TAED or the CASPer exam, and selection weightings were adjusted. Since the current 2026 to 2027 application cycle is for Fall 2027 entry, CASPer is not required for that intake.

Not confirmed

Dalhousie University (DDS). The main program page does not mention CASPer, and links out to the academic calendar for the complete admission process, which was not accessible when this article was checked.
