The TMU Kira assessment is an online, asynchronous assessment of six timed questions with both video and written answers, run on Kira Talent. For fall 2027 entry, TMU emails invitations on 12 November 2026 and applicants complete it between 19 and 22 November 2026. It decides who reaches file review; the live MMI comes later. TMU medicine does not require Casper or the MCAT.
What is the TMU Kira assessment format?
TMU’s selection page says all applicants are invited to the asynchronous assessment, hosted by Kira Talent. It has six timed questions, both video and written. Asynchronous means there is no live interviewer: you read or watch each question and record or type your answer on your own, against the clock.
Kira Talent gives one attempt per question in the real assessment, and you cannot replay a response. Kira’s own preparation tips include updating your software, closing other applications and tabs, keeping your device charged or plugged in, and finding a quiet space where you will not be disturbed. Depending on the school, your Kira Check-In page may have a Practice step, and you can redo practice questions. For how the platform works across schools, see the Kira Talent guide.
What does the TMU Kira assessment evaluate?
TMU says the assessment evaluates your understanding of and commitment to the school’s mission and values, plus communication, reasoning and problem-solving. The mission focuses on the primary care needs of diverse and medically underserved populations, community-engaged education, holistic health care, equity, and a commitment to Truth, Reconciliation, anti-racism and justice.
Naming those values is not enough on its own. When Arvin Ardakani marks a practice answer, one of the six skills he scores is action: a practical step within your role, not a statement of what you value. All six are set out in how he marks an answer.
Where does Kira sit in the TMU admissions process?
TMU lists five stages: initial screening, the asynchronous assessment, file review, interviews, and selection and ranking. The Kira assessment generates a shortlist for file review. After file review, a further shortlist is invited to interview. Ranking uses a composite aggregate score that takes every round of assessment into account.
A Kira invitation does not confirm eligibility. TMU’s FAQ says receiving an invitation “does not automatically mean you have met all admission requirements,” because screening continues.
Applicants in the General Admissions Stream, the Black Admissions Pathway and the Equity-Deserving Admissions Pathway then take a virtual Multiple Mini-Interview: six short, timed, live stations. Applicants in the Indigenous Admissions Pathway take part in a virtual Talking Circle instead. See what an MMI is and how to prepare for an MMI in two weeks. TMU’s Kira assessment is separate from Acuity’s early-phase MMI; see which Ontario medical schools use the early-phase MMI.

What has TMU not published?
TMU has not published the split between video and written questions, the timers, the total length, the question wording or the scoring weights. Your invitation gives the details. TMU lists no closing hour for 22 November, so confirm the time and time zone in your invitation, especially if you are outside Ontario. Use the timers in your invitation, not another school’s. TMU’s pages were checked on 21 October 2026.
How to prepare for the TMU Kira assessment
The six questions mix recorded video and timed writing, so practise both, against a clock, with one attempt each, the way the real assessment works. Arvin Ardakani coaches applicants for Kira assessments, TMU’s included, through Arvin’s Kira Assessment Masterclass, and marks every practice response himself. The full routine is in how to prepare for the TMU Kira assessment, and sample prompts are in Kira interview questions and answers.
Read your invitation on 12 November, note the closing time, and complete one spoken and one written practice answer this week. Then try the free Kira assessment (two stations, about 8 minutes) for feedback on a recorded answer, or Chat with Arvin using the WhatsApp button on this page.
For a step-by-step system built for this exact step, the Masterclass has a full TMU track and up to three TMU-style mock assessments.
