Acuity names two schools on its early-phase MMI page: Queen’s University and the University of Ottawa. Ottawa states the assessment was collaboratively developed by several Ontario medical schools, and Acuity names those two as the schools that invite applicants to take it. If your school is not one of the two, its own admissions page sets its requirements.
What do the two schools require?
Acuity states applicants who successfully submit an application to the Queen’s or Ottawa MD programs are invited to schedule the early-phase MMI. Ottawa states all applicants must complete it.
What about other schools?
Acuity’s early-phase MMI page names Queen’s and Ottawa only. If a Reddit thread or a friend says another school uses it, that school’s admissions page is the place to confirm it.
Why does it matter?
The schools differ on language rules (see The uOttawa early-phase MMI language rule), on Casper (see The Queen’s early-phase MMI), and on how the score is used (see How is the early-phase MMI scored?). Arvin Ardakani suggests applicants build a one-page table of each school’s rules and confirm it against official pages.
What happens after the early-phase MMI?
The early-phase MMI for 2027 entry ran on 16, 18 and 19 October 2026, and Acuity has not posted dates for the next cycle. At Ottawa, interview invitations come from a rank-order list built from CGPA, early-phase MMI score and Autobiographical Sketch score, and interviews are typically held between February and March: a semi-structured panel interview of about 40 minutes. For that stage, read the Ottawa medicine interview format and see the Interview program. Applying next cycle? Everything on this page still applies: applicants are contacted in early October, shortly after the OMSAS deadline.
