Toronto dentistry requires CASPer: the University of Toronto’s DDS program asks for the Canadian Casper 2 test, the DAT (only the academic average and perceptual ability sections count) and two essays. Invited applicants then have a 20-minute in-person interview with two faculty members at the Faculty of Dentistry on a weekend in early February. Applications for fall 2027 entry close on 1 November 2026, and Toronto interviews approximately 180 applicants for 96 places.
Does Toronto dentistry require CASPer?
Yes. Toronto requires the Canadian Casper 2 test through Acuity Insights. Duet and Snapshot are not mentioned. Only the DAT academic average and perceptual ability sections are considered, using your highest set of scores. Applications are open from 1 September to 1 November, and the Casper score is valid for one admissions cycle only. Applying to Ontario’s other dental school as well? What is the Toronto dentistry interview like?
Toronto holds interviews in person at the Faculty on a weekend in early February, with invitations sent by email in January. Each interview is 20 minutes with two faculty members, and the day includes a short talk from the Faculty Registrar on the decision process and a tour led by current dental students. It is a conversation, not an MMI: see panel interview vs MMI for how that changes your preparation.
What essays does Toronto dentistry require?
Toronto requires two essays alongside academics, the DAT and Casper: a personal statement on why you want a dental career, and a one-page essay on your greatest accomplishment.
How does Toronto dentistry select applicants?
No weights are published. The admissions committee considers the interview, academic achievement, DAT scores, Casper and the essays together. Applications from qualified Indigenous applicants receive special consideration.
What does Toronto dentistry not publish?
- The weighting of each component.
- Any residency priority.
How to prepare for the Toronto dentistry interview
A 20-minute interview with two faculty members rewards real stories, a clear reason for dentistry and calm answers to follow-up questions. Arvin Ardakani coaches applicants on the personal stories behind their answers and runs mock interviews with follow-ups. Start with how to answer “tell me about yourself” and why personal stories beat memorised templates.
